ascot mascot

the day we went racing the queen wasn't there, but I had this fantasy about what might have happened if she had been....

ma'am and me
And being a guest of h.m. would, obviously, have enabled me to sneak into the royal enclosure!

sneeking in

Obviously, if your special Ascot friend had gone to the races that day, you wouldn't have worried about being in the Royal Enclosure. But Her Majesty's Representative at the Course has introduced a discriminatory ruling about hippos and I'm too striking to sneak in unobserved. How unfair is that?

hippolyta - that's terrible! i didn't know that h.m. was hippoist! i am shocked!

sharon - which (or what) one?

Buttons - ask Brian or David to explain.

But surely she might have made an exception in your case, Hippolyta?

Well, I would have thought so, too, SharonM. After all, I do add a touch of glamour to any event. And I honestly don't think it's my fault that a couple of racehorses bolted when they saw me on the last occasion I managed to get in to the course. (But don't worry, the day wasn't wasted. Buttons and I had a cosy evening in the garden afterwards)

I wonder if David & Brian will be Best Men at the wedding, or if that honour will fall to Buttons Hippo.

I'm sorry to say that Hippolyta and I have had a Little Misunderstanding which means that if there is a wedding it seems very unlikely that I will even be asked to the Reception ...

oh, dear! what now?

Just a silly misunderstanding - apparently a little joke I played on Hippolyta meant that she didn't go with you to Greece. So she says that it's all my fault that she missed out this year. Unfair, but that's hippo-esses for you.

next year, coz, we must try and sort this our more efficiently: it is way too stressful!
