birthday bunny

yesterday was my birthday: annoying that i have to share it with easter, but since i arrived (quite a few years ago now) in a box with a cadbury's buttons easter egg, that's how it is.

anyway, i had a very jolly time with my cousin, buttons hippo, and the always vivacious hippolyta hippo who says she is my inamorata – whatever that means.

they very decently clubbed together and bought be an easter birthday mug which turned out to contain – big surprise, this – another cousin, named buttons bunny.

Arrival of Buttons Bunny

buttons bunny is quite a cute little chap but he is ridiculously young and so doesn't stop talking and asking questions: it was a long day and it's now getting on for one o'clock in the morning and he is still, if you'll pardon the pun, rabbiting on! i've suggested he kips down in the mug for the night, but he doesn't seem to be taking the hint...

Belated Many Hoppy Returns, Buttonsxx

What a lovely photo - I see that Hippolyta got dressed up specially for your birthday (perhaps to do a bit of wooing - I notice she is trying to put her arm around you).

It's getting very confusing with all those members of the Buttons family. Perhaps you can rename your new charge Whitey.

As Buttons moderator, I pass on his reply...

actually, that's hippolyta's everyday wear! thanks for pointing out about the arm – probably an inamorata thing.

i know what you mean about the buttonses: i'd no idea there were so many - or how many other characters (bears, rabbits, even – heaven help us – dogs!) there are out there calling themselves 'buttons', i may have to consider changing my name by deed poll.

by the way, frankly, i think i'm old enough now to moderate my own comments.

SharonM - there are lots of Buttons' cousins out there and we all have our fair share of good looks, charm, charisma and modesty. I've promised Buttons that next time we meet I'll give him the details of our family history (with special reference to the Limpopo branch of the family). There didn't seem to be time on his birthday, what with Hippolyta attention-seeking and young Buttons Bunny chattering away.

And actually, although she was looking forward to spending a day with Buttons, Hippolyta didn't want to wear her best sequin number in case it got Pimms' stains on it before she wears it at Westminster Abbey on Friday. (Her invitation seems to have got lost in the post, but she won't let a minor detail like that stop her from being there)

they say it's going to rain on friday so you can always tell hippolyta that the wedding was called off.

or you could tell her one of your shorter tales of life up the limpopo and when she wakes up you can tell her she missed a day...
